SGIP Incentive in California and the Energy Efficiency Audit (EEA) Requirement

SGIP provides financial incentives for the installation of energy storage systems and other technologies that can generate electricity on-site, thus reducing demand on the grid during peak periods.
California Assembly Bill 802 (AB 802)
Assembly Bill 802 (AB-802) established the California Building Energy Benchmarking Program. This ordinance mandates annual energy benchmarking for commercial and multifamily buildings larger than 50,000 sq ft. THE DEADLINE IS JUNE 1 EVERY YEAR.
San Jose Beyond Benchmarking - Requirements and Deadlines
A new set of compliance requirements for commercial and multifamily properties take effect in San Jose in 2023. The program is called Beyond Benchmarking and requires compliance with energy and water consumption standards. Buildings that do not meet performance standards the owner can perform an energy audit, retro-commissioning (RCx), or targeted efficiency upgrades to improve performance.
Buildings over 50,000 sq ft with an APN ending in either 0 or 1 must have Beyond Benchmarking requirements planned or fulfilled by May 1, 2023.
Los Angeles EBEWE - Energy and Water A/RCx Exemption
Los Angeles Existing Building Energy and Water Efficiency (EBEWE) ordinance requires the performance of audit and/or retro-commissioning (RCx) for subject properties on a 5-year basis.
There are provisions to receive exemptions from EBEWE A/RCx compliance requirements. All exemptions must be certified by, or performed under the supervision of, a licensed professional engineer in California.
San Jose Energy and Water Building Performance Ordinance (EW BPO)
The Energy and Water Building Performance Ordinance (EWBPO) is a policy implemented by the City of San Jose to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability. The ordinance requires non-residential buildings over 20,000 square feet and multifamily buildings with five or more units to disclose their energy and water usage and to conduct energy and water audits at specific intervals.
